Crysis:Warhead -Crytek arms $699 PC09/11/2008 - Posted by: By TomM_GScom -Gamespot

Though most balked at the audacious claim, Crytek said at the Game Developers Conference in February that its technical powerhouse first-person shooter Crysis could be made to run well on a PC that costs about $600. As it would turn out, the exact price of that PC will be $699.

As reported by game journalist Chris Remo on his personal blog, Crytek, Nvidia, and EA have teamed to create the "Warhead PC," a prebuilt machine that will be available for purchase alongside Crysis Warhead through UltraPC next week. Although the PC's exact specifications aren't expected to be announced until next week, Remo noted that the build will feature an Intel Core2 Duo e7300 (@2.66GHz) processor, an Nvidia 9800GT graphics chip, and 2GB of RAM.

As noted by Crysis franchise producer Bernd Diemer, EA and Crytek aren't attempting to make a move on the hardware space; rather, the goal of offering the PC is to prove that high-end gaming doesn't require thousands of dollars in investment.

"When we started working on Warhead, we decided performance was a big issue," said Diemer. "So we said, 'Guys, we're going to build a PC which has a maximum price of six or seven hundred dollars, and it has to run Warhead in high spec at an average frame rate of 30.' We built that PC--Crytek in the Budapest office [where Warhead was developed]--and we put it in the middle of the studio, and every review was on that machine... For us, it was really helpful, because we sort of had a hard cap."

A pseudosequel to the acclaimed 2007 shooter Crysis, Warhead offers a storyline parallel to the original game as well as a greatly expanded emphasis on multiplayer combat. For more on Crysis Warhead, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

GC 2008: Call of Duty: World at War Co-op Hands-on -Xbox 36008/26/2008 - Posted by: by Jason Ocampo -IGN

The new COD will feature something called competitive co-op. Find out what that means.

August 19, 2008 - It was bound to happen sooner or later; having seen Call of Duty: World at War about three or four times now, Activision finally let us have a chance to actually play the game, a World War II shooter built on the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine. We got a taste of two-player co-op in the Pacific (the game supports up to four-player co-op in the campaign) as well as some Russian-themed competitive co-op.

First up was co-op play; the level was Hard Landing, the very same level that was shown off during Activision's E3 press conference. This is one of the three Peleliu-based missions in the campaign, Peleliu being a coral island that was the center of a fierce two-month battle between the US and Japan. In this mission, you must work your way through a swamp to capture a Japanese airstrip. You're part of a small squad, with the squad leader voiced by Jack Bauer himself, Kiefer Sutherland. He really earned his voice acting pay on this one, as he's continually screaming orders above the roar of gunfire and explosions.

Crysis Warhead [PC]08/08/2008 - Posted by: -=NC=- Madskillz

Maybe you'll be able to run it this time.
By: Nate Ahearn

Crysis was one hell of a game. Sadly it was also one hell of an investment if you wanted to get the full experience, something that even today's state of the art computers have trouble doing. Now EA and Crytek are set to release Crysis Warhead, a stand-alone follow-up with a story that runs concurrently to the one in Crysis. And yes, more computers will be able to run it this time around
